"To us, a wedding day is all about love! And so we wanted those who we loved most of all to be there, celebrating with us. We didn’t want anything too formal, we wanted everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves – including ourselves! "e absolutely loved Bassmead Manor Barns – as soon as we saw the Rickety Barn we knew that was the place where we wanted to get married. It’s such a great venue, all the staff are amazing and know exactly how to make sure your day runs smoothly and the food was incredible! " Jess & Joe click on a photo to enlarge We wanted the day to be romantic but also fun and relaxed for our guests. That’s why we had garden games, a popcorn bar but also made sure the ceremony highlighted exactly why we were all there together – and hopefully, everyone felt the love in the room! Because we just had our closest friends and family, most people had met before so it was a great chance for everyone to catch up and have fun together throughout the whole day.
I wanted something quite simple but romantic and loved the combination of blush pink, cream, gold and navy together. Joe also looks very good in a blue suit so I knew that we had to have navy in the colour scheme to keep that as an option for him! My dress was by Lara at Lara B Bridal in Newmarket. Her shop was the third one I visited and I was completely confused about what I wanted but after just 10 minutes with her, she’d found the perfect dress for me. She designed it herself and I was able to choose the top and the bottom of the dress separately based on what I liked and what suited me, and she made it all into one dress made exactly for me! It’s unique and it was exactly what I wanted – something relaxed but special and it made me feel amazing! My flowers were by Dana Young Flowers and was an amazing combination of ivory garden roses, David Austin roses, quicksand, menthe, ivory scabious, sweet peas, berried eucalyptus and silver brunia. I wanted something that reflected the informal, romantic and elegant but rustic day I had planned – and I loved it! Joe wore a three piece suit from a local shop with a checked waistcoat and blush pink cravat. His button hole was made up of flowers from my bouquet. The Best Man and Ushers wore the same suit but with a navy waistcoat and gypsophilia button holes. The bridesmaids wore outfits from Coast – a separate sequined top and blush pink full length skirt. They looked beautiful! I bought them earrings as gifts and they had gypsophilia in their hair. For the reception, we had split the tables so that half had tall flower arrangements and the other half had a smaller arrangement in bell jars. It worked really well and complimented the stationary that I designed myself – including our table numbers which had photos of me and Joe at that age. We bought personalized pens for wedding favours so everyone could fill in the ad-libs that was at everyone’s place setting. Again, we wanted something a bit different so we found photos of us with every guest – going through childhood photo albums, to have them printed as polaroids with their names on. We used these as place settings and gave everyone something to talk about! Finally, our cake was suspended from the ceiling, so that was a great talking point for everyone and a focus of the room. We also really enjoyed the evening after the meal. The weather was amazing and everyone was relaxed out in the garden playing games. It was exactly how we wanted the day to be. The suspended wedding cake was definitely something we’d never seen before but we also added personalized touches such as stationary that I had designed myself. I made an infographic for the Order of Service which people really enjoyed looking at before the ceremony began and then our popcorn bar during the drinks reception was a perfect addition on a gorgeous day! Everything that we had planned came together perfectly but at the end of the day, the wedding wouldn’t have been as special if we weren’t surrounded by all our nearest and dearest. Make sure you take time out of the day with your new husband but also – enjoy being with everyone who you care for most. How often do you get everyone you love in the same place? My favorite moment Definitely the Best Man’s speech! We loved the speeches. Joe’s Best Man had personally drawn a series of portraits for us and pulled them together into a parody of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. He presented the story onto a big screen and handed out printed books for everyone to follow the story with. He then presented us with a specially bound version of the book – it was hilarious and very special. We also really enjoyed the evening after the meal. The weather was amazing and everyone was relaxed out in the garden playing games. It was exactly how we wanted the day to be.
